EBU WELCOMES THE COMMISSION’S INTENTION TO BOOST SHIFT TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE MODES BY THE PROPOSED REVISION OF THE COMBINED TRANSPORT DIRECTIVE CTD

Inland waterway transport (IWT) is one of the modes designated and able to absorb higher shares of freight volumes on the European waterways. It is part of the solution to meet the sustainability goals and to keep Europe moving. EBU therefore welcomes the Commission’s new endeavour to revise the CTD which is considered instrumental to meet the sustainability goals of transport in Europe.

The update of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), already agreed upon between MEPs and Council, raises the share of renewables in the EU’s final energy consumption to 42.5% by 2030. Member states should strive to achieve 45%.

Der erfolgten Unterzeichnung des Änderungsprotokolls zum Moselvertrag schließt sich nun ein Ratifizierungsverfahren an. Die Abgabenfreiheit auf der Mosel soll dann in allen drei Staaten zum 1. Juli 2025 in Kraft treten.

BDB lobt Abschlussbericht der Beschleunigungskommission und plädiert für eine gesetzliche Regelung zur Genehmigungsbeschleunigung

Die Ende 2022 von Bundesverkehrsminister Volker Wissing gegründete Kommission zur Ermittlung von Beschleunigungsfaktoren beim Ausbau des Mittelrheins hat am 19. September ihren Abschlussbericht an den Minister übergeben. Ins Leben gerufen wurde diese Kommission, weil selbst vergleichsweise einfache Ausbaumaßnahmen wie die Fahrrinnenoptimierung am Mittelrhein zwischen St. Goar und Budenheim bei Mainz aufgrund komplexer Planungs- und Genehmigungsverfahren mitunter Jahrzehnte dauern.

Maritime ports that see at least 50 port calls by large passenger vessels, or 100 port calls by container vessels, must provide shore-side electricity for such vessels by 2030. This will not only help reduce the carbon footprint of maritime transport, but also significantly reduce local air pollution in port areas.

More renewable and low-carbon fuels will reduce the carbon footprint of the maritime sector in the EU following today’s adoption of a new regulation by the Council on the so-called ‘FuelEU maritime’ initiative.
