Position on the Cruise Regulations in Amsterdam
On the 23rd of May we had a hearing at the Dutch Commission for Finance, Art and Diversity, which handles the Cruise Regulation Discussion in Amsterdam.
The speakers from the sector included the European River Cruise Association (IGRC), the European Barge Union (EBU) and Koninklijke Binnenvaart Nederland, as well as HORECA Netherlands, which represents the Hotel Sector. The recording of the plenary session can also be viewed on the Government Website.
Although each speech was limited to three minutes, several questions were asked in regard to the concept of managed tourism and the impact of a cruise ban. Most importantly, the council enquired if the association was willing to share data on cruise and passenger traffic to better understand our arguments and was positive towards the offer to engage in detailed discussion on managing current numbers of cruise passengers better in the city. We expect a follow-up by the council on that topic in the next weeks.
